PPRC - Center Update

FY04 National Deliverables

  • Innovative Incentive Programs Topic Hub - PPRC will research and describe innovative incentives that are being used in private and public sectors in the Northwest to facilitate the implementation of pollution prevention strategies. PPRC will then develop a compendium, write contextual narratives and create a P2Rx Topic Hub.

FY04 Regional Deliverables

  • Provide Suite of Services - This activity includes providing services that we have offered for many years at PPRC. These are: “What’s New in P2” News Service, Rapid Response, Public Access to Library, Requests for Proposal’s Clearinghouse, Research Projects Database, and PeerReview. PPRC will also be overhauling our web site under this activity.
  • Advance Environmentally Preferable Purchasing - 1) Refine a Product Prioritization Tool that “walks” the user through several decision considerations - environmental, logistical, political, economical - and ultimately identifies which product categories should be addressed first under an organization’s EPP strategy; 2) Develop a Market Survey Protocol to ensure that a product category is thoroughly researched when trying to identify environmentally preferable products, it is necessary to follow a rigorous protocol. This protocol will lay the foundation for success in identifying viable products and working with original equipment manufacturers and procurement professionals; and 3) Apply Market Survey Protocol to a Product Category - PPRC will engage large purchasers of products to galvanize support for the need to develop product surveys. PPRC believes this will help in getting immediate feedback and participation from product vendors. PPRC will then apply the market survey protocol to identify products that meet the pre-determined environmental criteria.
  • Enhance and Market Innovative Business Tools - Continue to identify performance specifications mandated by large corporations and input into our recently developed Industrial Performance Specifications Database. This database will match performance specifications with the most environmentally preferable product that meets that specification.
  • Identify Innovative Incentives and Points of Leverage That Facilitate Environmental Performance - PPRC will research and describe innovative incentives that are being used in private and public sectors in the Northwest to facilitate the implementation of pollution prevention strategies. This information will act as guidance for programs in the Region 10 Pollution Prevention Information Network, and also used in the Topic Hub format.
  • Facilitate Industry Sector Networking - organize and facilitate two industry sector roundtables. The sectors will be identified by the PPRC-chaired Emerging Issues Workgroup (leveraged source of funds) and will take into consideration the industries overall environmental impact, availability of innovative P2 technologies and materials, compliance and other regulatory drivers, and other issues determined by the Workgroup.

Other Projects

  • Fluorescent Lamp Recycling Outreach- Establishing a Northwest communication effort on proper management of fluorescent lamps in coordination with energy efficiency outreach activities.
