·
Everyone - contact Jean to (a) let her know if you're
interested in coming. (b) when you
could come (this summer). (c) other topics
you'd like to cover/work on. (d) where
you'd like to (can afford to travel to) meet.
The P2Rx
web group met on a conference call, Monday May 13, 2002. Andy (Region 1&2),
Curt, (Region 3&4), Todd, Joy (Region 5), Fernando (Region 6), Kathy, Ling,
Jean, Matt (Region 7), Laura (Region 8), Crispin (Region 10), and Scott were present on the call.
Jean
initiated the meeting by leading an update on the content sharing project. She used a document that identifies
remaining tasks, their due dates, and assigns responsibilities. Then, the four agenda items were covered.
1. Next, Laura reviewed the collection policy for the program
directory. The policy is at http://peakstoprairies.org/pdpolicy.cfm. It's important that each center gets back to Laura and
copies Jean with any comments. Even if
you don't think any changes are needed, let us hear that from you. Comments should be sent within a week (by
May 20). In addition, Kathy is working
on topic hub hierarchies and standardized descriptive vocabulary to make
searching easier.
2. Andy prepared a demo on a search engine he
wrote for searching the topic hub databases.
The group
reviewed it at http://www.newmoa.org/prevention/topichub. There's a general search and an advanced search. If you use the advanced search, you can
search by title, description, link source, or link URL, plus you can search
using pull-down menus for resource type or keywords. This search engine is currently constructed to look at a single
topic hub at a time. The advantage to
this engine over the EPA search engine, which we're probably going to use for
general searching, is that this engine provides access to info held within our
topic hub databases that isn't displayed as an actual page. The web group agreed to put this engine
on each of our topic hub pages. Later, we may try to make this or something like it search among
topic hubs - so if you were in automotive, for example, you could get relevant
links from other hubs.
3. Fernando reviewed the new admin pages at http://p2.utep.edu/testhubs/admin. This is still being worked on but will help us create new topic
hubs with info needed for content sharing.
Each participant created a new hub, which we used as Fernando walked us
through the features of the new pages.
4. Finally, the group discussed the possible
web workshop. Dates are a bit of a
problem. The group should review the
document that Jean sent as an attachment to an email sent on May 13, 2002 that
outlines the workshop. Looking at the
content sharing schedule, the demonstration sites should be up and running by
the time we could meet in June. There
may be other programming activities the demo centers could benefit from, and
all would probably benefit from discussing the architecture behind the content
sharing. We want the experience to be
valuable for everyone, though. Each
group member should contact Jean to (a) let her know if you're interested in
coming. (b) when you could come (this
summer). (c) other topics you'd like to
cover/work on. (d) where you'd like to
(can afford to travel to) meet.
The next web call will be on June 10 at 2:00 PM
Eastern, 1:00 PM Central, Noon Mountain and 11:00 AM Pacific.
