Process of how to review new terms for the P2 thesaurus

Kathy has prepared one document, volunteered to systematically update thesaurus periodically.  Centers could receive the updated thesaurus when they need it.  Exact method of transfer is yet to be determined.  Part of this task will be to “normalize” the keywords currently being used by all Centers.

Check free keywords against authority keywords

Kathy & Andy have Master Lists of authority key words but the lists are different. Lists need to be reconciled.

Topic hubs are set up so keywords have a number and the number is actually what’s used for searching.  This is an auto numbering scheme so if one center changes keywords, all centers must change at essentially the same time.

Kathy will reconcile lists by 9-9-02.

Full-text searching of documents associated with topic hubs

Search engine from EPA will look at meta tag information first, need work-around for full page to be searched.

+ Greg is adding special fields to every page and Laura will fill in the fields for her site.

+ Crispin plans to do “triage” on her site, filling in the fields for the most important pages first.

+ Andy is using an access database to help weave meta tags into pages as the server generates the page.

Tailoring links with regional discretion

Some centers may want to reuse some other center’s link and the “user” may want to change some descriptive information about the link.  The “user” center has made this decision so the hub works better in their region, i.e., this link isn’t shared with all centers.

Will need to change the way hub updates are done so updates are a duplication function, thus it won’t wipe out the customization done by the “user” regional center.
