The ISO 14001 standard requires that a facility's EMS policy statement include commitments to both the prevention of pollution and to continual improvement. This section provides links to pollution prevention information that can give a facility ideas for pollution prevention projects and objectives that can be incorporated into an EMS.

U.S. Department of Energy Pollution Prevention Information Clearinghouse
Includes information on DOE pollution prevention projects and programs, EMS, energy efficiency, environmental restoration, sustainable design and more.

U.S. Department of Administration - Energy and Environment
Includes a link to Executive Order 13101, Greening the Government through Waste Prevention, Recycling, and Federal Acquisition, Recycling, Waste Prevention/Policies, Guidance & Tools, and more.

EPA's Energy Star Program
ENERGY STAR is a government-backed program helping businesses and individuals protect the environment through superior energy efficiency. Web site includes information on Energy Star products, home and business improvements, and related resources.

Greening the Government Through Efficient Energy Management
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Construction Engineering Research Laboratory Web site includes information on sustainable design and development, environmentally preferable purchasing, Army and other military projects, and more.

Greening of the National Park Service
Includes memorandum of understanding for greening of energy in the Park Service, memorandum of environmental excellence for the Park Service, and the Green Toolbox, which contains information on regulations, renewable energy, conservation, electronic forms and other resources to help Park Service employees with implementation of green projects.

U.S. EPA National Center for Environmental Innovation
The EPA is testing innovative approaches to environmental protection through a number of voluntary initiatives. The site provides links to projects such as Project XL and Performance Track.

The Pacific Northwest Pollution Prevention Resource Center (PPRC) - Environmental Purchasing
PPRC has compiled information that will assist purchasers in their efforts to establish or maintain an environmental purchasing program. Included is information that can assist in identifying "green" products, setting up an environmental purchasing program, general and specific resources available to purchasers, guides for locating green products, and examples of procurement programs that can be used as a guide for purchasers building or improving their own programs. A number of these resources also provide concrete examples identifying the overall cost savings in using environmentally preferable products - achieved due to longer life of the product, reduced operating costs and/or reduced maintenance costs.

A guide to buying recycled content products and reducing waste.

U.S. Federal Services Administration - Sustainable Development
Includes information on green leasing, green buildings design and construction, environmentally preferable purchasing, Energy Star buildings, and related policies, publications and links.

U.S. Department of Energy's Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Network - Smart Communities Network - Water Efficiency Web site
Provides access to the primary sources of assistance and information available to your community for implementing best management practices for water efficiency and protection of water quality. Includes pollution prevention information, success stories and related publications and links.

EPA's Water Use Efficiency Program
Includes water efficiency tips for residences, businesses, industries, communities, municipalities and landscaping. Also contains water recycling and reuse, water conservation and drought management plans, and related publications and links.

Guides for water conservation, including industrial, landscaping, sanitary, heating and cooling, and other uses.

Waste Reduction Information by Industry Sector
This online collection of pollution prevention core references includes technical references, fact sheets and case studies on pollution prevention for selected industry sectors. These documents are deemed to be the "best" by the entities that compiled them.

Sector-Specific EMS Information - Public Utilities Operations
Provides information about EMS and Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTWs) including design tools, articles, reports, case studies, workshop presentations and related links.

Pollution Prevention Resource Exchange Topic Hubs and Sector Resources
Topic Hubs are Web-based guides to peer-reviewed pollution prevention information and expertise on a particular subject. Additional resources (sector resources) provide additional links to pollution prevention information. The links are compiled by the individual P2Rx center, but are not in the topic hub format.

Federal Network for Sustainability
The Federal Network for Sustainability (FNS) promotes cost-effective, energy- and resource-efficient operations across all branches of government. Current initiatives include environmental management systems, greening federal copier paper, electronic products stewardship, and green power procurement. Includes information on trainings/workshops and links to related federal resources.

Joint Service Pollution Prevention (P2) Technical Library
The Joint Service P2 Technical Library is the single comprehensive resource for information on equipment, technologies, and management practices that reduce or eliminate the generation, disposal, and release of pollutants at joint military service installations. The P2 Technical Library is an excellent source of the lessons learned and success stories throughout the joint services, and is useful for researching pollution prevention opportunities during P2 plan development and other projects.

The National Pollution Prevention Roundtable
The National Pollution Prevention Roundtable, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the largest membership organization in the United States devoted solely to pollution prevention (P2). The mission of the Roundtable is to provide a national forum for promoting the development, implementation and evaluation of efforts to avoid, eliminate or reduce pollution at the source.
